Was a very informative museum . The only thing that could be improved is the commentary tv's. You should be able to push a button to start the talking like you do with meet Mr. Lincoln
Be prepared to read! We were not able to absorb/read everything in the two hours we had. The audio from the TVs and displays is loud and a jumble of distraction as you try to read surround plaques- was lucky to have earplugs on me. Nice displays of uniforms, weapons, medical, and other supplies associated with life as a soldier. Good information on African American troops
The price to enter was reasonable (if I recall it was $11 when I visited) and the range of exhibits is impressive. It looks at the issues leading to the war, shows how they split between states' rights and slavery, and also covers many aspects of the war from uniforms to weapons to battle tactics.
This is a very nice museum of the US Civil War. There is so much here to see and learn about a very important part of our history. There are a tremendous amount of displays to see, and everything is explained in detail. The staff is very helpful if you have questions.
It's always a good sign to have to leave a museum due to running out of time, and wishing you could stay longer to see the exhibits in more detail. This is a place I expect to revisit.
The grounds are impressive, and there was plenty of parking. The parking is a short walk from the museum and I believe there are a few spaces for disabled visitors to use so they don't need to walk.
The signage could be a little better. We approached from route 322 from the north and at first the signs were good, but seemed to suddenly disappear when we needed them most. Thankfully Google Maps guided us for the last mile or so.
It was the best museum that I have ever went to! I would not bring your children to the museum because after awhile if you are interested in one section you child will get bored. There is great service and the workers are so nice! And also if you love history then you will love this museum. If you where in the Navy or milatary then you will have a price of $10 and not the regular price.
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I visited with some friends, who in turn were visiting me from abroad. They wanted to see the museum so we all went along.
